The RFS team welcomed over 70 14-16 year olds and a marquee-full of exhibitors last week for the first Careers Roadshow aiming to educate and encourage young people to consider the breadth of forestry (and other rural) careers.

With demonstrations from Say It With Wood, RFS Tim Kaye & Becky Wilkinson, and Hereford & Ludlow College teachers Lu & Dave, teens were led through sessions on Mensuration & Timber Volumes, Chestnut Stakes, Tree ID & Timber Uses, as well as Climbing and Aerial Rescue.

The marquee was also filled with representatives from the Forestry Commission, Forestry England, The Duchy of Cornwall, Pryor & Rickett Silviculture, Cultivating Learning & Nature, Hereford & Ludlow College team, as well as our own RFS Herefordshire Division, all with great activities and challenges to do and information to take away.

Feedback from teachers and parents present was very positive with many expressing that the young people in attendance had gained a lot and would likely really benefit from a career in forestry.

We hope that we can continue to encourage more to learn and explore as we continue the roadshow this week in north Wales. If you wish to join us you can still find the information here.
