By joining the RFS register of Certified Foresters and Arborists, your clients and future employers can be confident that you have evidenced the range of knowledge and practical skills that are needed to work safely and competently with trees.

Looking for a flexible pathway into the sector alongside other commitments?

Working towards RFS Certification gives you a clear pathway with guidance on which theory and practical qualifications will help you enter and then build success in your chosen career. Work at your own pace to gain the qualifications with free, impartial advice available from our Careers Advice Service.

Successful applicants may:

Add the name of the certificate after your name e.g. Megan Smith, Cert. Arb.  or John Smith, Cert. For.

Use the RFS Certifications logo on their website or other professional media. (For anyone who has gained or renewed their Certification after 1st January 2025).

Claim a year’s free membership of the RFS.

How to apply

RFS Certification requires evidence of both relevant theoretical knowledge and practical skills in your chosen occupational pathway. You need to pay for your application in the Shop (£100 each or £145 for both) then complete the application form for the certification you wish to gain. Once your application has been received and processed we will contact you to let you know if your application has been successful and we will then arrange the interview part of the application process.

Forestry See our full list of recognised certificates of competency. To apply you will need 8 or more NPTC or Lantra certificates including an up to date Forestry First Aid qualification.

Arboriculture See our full list of recognised certificates of competency. To apply you will need 8 or more NPTC or Lantra certificates including an up to date Forestry First Aid qualification.
