For Leanne Ferris, RFS Certification was a gateway to her new role as an arboriculturist with a leading provider of ecological and land management services. With several years of experience under her belt, she was looking for a way to advance her career and open up new opportunities. Already an RFS member, she decided to take the next step and apply for a Certificate in Arboriculture (Cert. Arb.).

“I have been working in arboriculture and woodland management for several years and in 2024 had the opportunity to further my studies,” said Leanne. “As an RFS member, I was aware of the professional certification routes that they offered. The certificate offers a unique blend of theoretical learning with practical arborist competencies.”

After completing her certification earlier this year, Leanne found new doors were opening to her. The professional designation was a recognition of her skills, which stood out in applications. She soon landed a job with a respected consultancy, carrying out ecology-focused tree surveys.

“This certificate, in addition to studying for the professional tree inspection qualification, has led to securing a role as an Arboriculturist for the Somerset Wildlife Trust Consultancy,” Leanne said. “The consultancy has an ecology focus, giving me the opportunity to perform typical arboriculturist activities such as tree surveying with projects such as woodland restoration and conservation arboriculture.”

“I feel that the RFS professional qualification was fundamental in securing my position at the consultancy and has given me the confidence to further my studies and participate more fully in RFS meetings.”
