Roger Wilson receives long service award
Roger Wilson is presented with the Long Service Award by RFS President Ben Herbert.

Roger Wilson has been recognised by the Forestry Commission for his decades of service. Roger has spent his entire career at the Forestry Commission, starting as a craftsperson in the Chilterns before working his way up to a forester role. Following a move to Cannock Chase, he found his niche in the industry as a timber marketer for the West Midlands District.

Here, he managed large-scale conifer forests covering 3,000 ha and producing 30,000 cm³ of timber per year. Roger was praised for integrating forestry with conservation management and for ushering in a new era of wider public access while maintaining a sustainable timber output.

The Forestry Commission is not only celebrating Roger’s length of service but also his deep understanding of forestry and timber markets, his strong customer relationships and his ability to achieve the best prices for the timber he produced. For these reasons and more he will be missed as he leaves the Forestry Commission to join the private sector.
