Who is Certification for?

RFS Certification recognises the knowledge and practical skills of professional foresters and arborists.

Why Apply?

As with other professional registers, RFS Certification is a way of demonstrating to future employers, clients or the general public, that you have been recognised as having the necessary skills to work in this sector.

  • Professional recognition from England, Wales and Northern Ireland’s oldest forestry and arboriculture organisation.
  • The right to add the name of the certificate after your name e.g. Megan Smith, Cert. Arb.  or John Smith, Cert. For.
  • Only £100 per application or £145 if applying for both at the same time.
  • Successful candidates are eligible for a year’s free RFS membership (saving over £50).
  • The RFS keeps a record of the qualifications of all holders of our certifications and will verify your status to anyone who makes an enquiry.
  • NEW: Applicants who received Certification after 1st January 2025 may use of the RFS Certifications logo on their website or other professional media to show their professional status.

From January 2025: All chainsaw related certification must have been gained in the previous 5 years or you must be able to provide evidence of having attended refresher training. Your RFS Certification will be valid for 5 years from the date of issue, after which time you will need to reapply.
