Goshawk Article Wins James Cup

The article appeared in the April 2023 issue of the Quarterly Journal of Forestry (QJF) and is  featured here

It was praised by judges for the quality of research. They also cited the clear, concise and accessible writing, and fantastic images.

Anna commented: “Thank you for the opportunity to publish our findings on the predation of grey squirrel by goshawk to a wider audience than we usually reach. We’ve been delighted with the interest in our work in this area and to be recognised with the RFS James Cup is a real privilege that will hopefully strengthen Gloucestershire Raptor Monitoring Group (GRMG’s) ability to work in partnership with landowners and foresters to conserve this fantastic raptor.”

In second place was Transforming Even-Aged Spruce Stands into Species-Diverse Irregular Forests by Andrew Cameron in the QJF July 2023 issue. In third place was Use of Trees by Bats in the UK: implications for forestry and woodland management by Andrew Harrington and Lauren A. Harrington also published in the July 2023 issue.

The James Cup is awarded each year. It goes to the author or authors of an article that in the opinion of a panel of judges drawn from the RFS membership, was the best to appear in the journal in the preceding year.
