Woburn Estates – Home Counties Division

We are indeed fortunate to be able to explore two distinct parts of the estate. In the morning we’ll look at the management of commercial forestry, focusing on the challenges of restocking, resilience, and balancing long-term forestry goals with public expectations. After lunch, we’ll head into the Evergreens and Pinetum. Please bring a packed lunch.

Aspley Heath Woods, Woburn

Outline of the day, kindly hosted by Nick Milner, Head Forester at Woburn Estates:

Morning – Commercial Forestry in a Public Setting
We’ll begin by looking at the management of commercial forestry at Aspley Heath Woods where there is significant public access, focusing on the challenges of restocking, resilience, and balancing long-term forestry goals with public expectations.

Afternoon – The Evergreens and Pinetum
Following lunch, we’ll head into the Evergreens — a private area of woodland showcasing specimen trees and a pinetum. A quieter, more sheltered part of the estate, it offers a contrast to the morning’s walk and a chance to appreciate some remarkable trees.
