Temple Newsam – Yorkshire Division

The Arium/Temple Newsam/Lotherton Hall: Host: Leeds City Council
Locations
1: Meet in the car park at The Arium, Thorner Lane, Whinmoor, Leeds, LS14 3FB. (What Three Words ///chosen.sits.speaks) Access to The Arium is from the East Leeds Orbital Route A6120 (ELOR) via the junctions on Wetherby Road A58, M1 junction 46 and York Road A64. Follow the signs to The Arium, onto Skeltons Lane. At the junction with Thorner Lane turn right and then next left. Look out for the large green Arium signs. Please bring a Hi-Vis jacket or vest if you have one.
2: Meet in The House (Lower) car park at Temple Newsam, Temple Newsam Road, Leeds, LS15 0AE. (What Three Words ///bags.task.zest). Access to the estate is via Temple Newsam Road or Colton Road.
3: Meet at Lotherton Hall, Lotherton Lane, Aberford, Leeds, LS25 3EB (What Three Words ///puns.neatly.hawks). Parking passes will be made available before we leave for Lotherton Hall. When you get to the end of the entrance driveway you will find a manned booth. Please stop here and let the person manning the booth know that you are part of the RFS party. We will be using the ‘overflow car park’ which is to the south of the Hall. The route to our parking area will be signposted from the hall.
The Visit:
- The Arium is a large area under glass used by Leeds City Council to produce plants for its parks and gardens, etc. We will be discussing its use for tree production. Cafe and loos available in the garden centre. Please bring a Hi-Vis jacket or vest if you have one.
- At Temple Newsam we will be looking Queen Elizabeth Plantation, young and new planting on parts of a former golf course and parkland creation and restoration. Cafe and loos available in the stable block. We shall be holding the AGM here.
- If time and enthusiasm permit, we shall visit Lotherton Hall to look at a site recently clear felled of poplar and discuss future options. Cafe and loos available near the hall.
