Malshanger Estate Club, Basingstoke – Southern Division

In this evening meeting, hosted by Mr J P Colman, Jonathan Spencer will give a presentation on Forests, Past, Present and Future. Forest composition has always changed in the past in response to climate and other environmental factors. They are changing yet again as a result of climate change, fragmentation, and other human influences, alongside the loss of some species from the past and the recent arrival of new species (notably deer and grey squirrels). What were the forests of our most recent past like? What changes are underway today? And what does this tell us of what forests could or should look like in the coming century?

Pre-visit information

In the light of COVID 19, we urge all members to read our COVID 19 guideline notes before attending woodland meetings.  In addition, as an educational charity, the RFS must lead by example on the biosecurity measures recommended by the Forestry Commission (FC) and Defra to minimise the risk of spreading soil-borne tree infections. You can make a difference to stopping the spread of tree diseases. Clean boots are a first step!  For further information, please click here
