Guisborough Forest and Coatham Woods – North Eastern Division
Hosted by FE, Trees for Tees Partnership and the FC, this joint meeting will have an update on modern multi objective forestry creation funding.
This is a joint visit with the Yorkshire Division and below is the outline programme for the day.
Parking: Guisborough Forest, Silverton Road, Guisborough approx postcode, TS14 7NE. Please arrive in good time for a 10.00 start to the day and avoid blocking any drives.
Morning session: We’ll look at modern multi objective forestry in the Tees Valley including Nature Recovery (LNRS), Resilience, Timber Production, Natural Flood Management (NFM), Forestry and Woodland Creation. We’ll get a funding update from our hosts and introduction to the newest Community Forest in Yorkshire and the North East of England.
12.00 – 13.00 Lunch arrangements: Return to vehicles. Drive to Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre. Postcode TS14 8HD (maps will be provided). All vehicles will need to pay for parking.
13.30 Travel to Coatham Woods. Postcode TS21 1AJ (maps will be provided). Take the road for Urlay Nook and Yarm south from Long Newton. The car park is on the east side of the road about half a mile from the village. The journey may vary from 30 mins – 45 mins depending on traffic. Park in the main car park.
Afternoon session: Trees for Tees will talk about the emerging Community Forest and links to the Local Nature Recovery Strategy / Net Zero ambitions for the Tees Valley. Forestry Commission will give an update of grants available from the FC. This will be followed by a walk round the woods looking at the wildflower meadow, the flood elevation works, establishment/history of the site and how we manage the site to date, including thinning works and regeneration.
