The Royal Forestry Society is delighted to be project partners in Building the links for Rockingham Forest in Northamptonshire.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project is working to connect landscapes, people and wildlife.
Learning and outreach Manager Becky Wilkinson said: “Rockingham Forest Vision is about connections.
“It is about how the core remaining wooded areas of Rockingham Forest can interact within an enriched biodiverse landscape.
“At the same time it is connecting our young people with the history and the ongoing importance of a managed forests.
“Woodland has a vital part to play in how we tackle climate change in the future. It also has a vital place in rural economies.”
The RFS is one of nine project partners coming together for two years. They will be working with a range of community groups to deliver lasting benefits to the area.
Dr Corinne Muir, Senior Project Officer with Nene Rivers Trust (NRT), said “NRT is excited to be coordinating and managing this exciting partnership project for Rockingham Forest. The Royal Forestry Society is a key partner in this work, bringing a wealth of experience, and delivering important elements of the scheme.”
Tony Juniper, Chair of Natural England, said: “The Rockingham Forest Vision is a fine example of the large scale ambition we must adopt as we plan for Nature’s recovery in England.”
The Royal Forestry Society will expand its existing Teaching Trees programme for children from Corby’s schools.
A full-time RFS ‘Forestry Roots’ trainee will be employed for 1 year and placed with North Northamptonshire Council Woodland Ranger Team.
The RFS will also provide introductory training in woodland management for landowners and managers.
