RFS Women in Forestry event to take place in Wales’ largest community woodland
The Royal Forestry Society’s third Women in Forestry meetup will be hosted in Longwood Community Woodland, Ceredigion, Wales on 22 April.
The Royal Forestry Society (RFS) is proud to host its third Women in Forestry event on 22 April, this time in Ceredigion, South Wales. Women in Forestry is an event series that brings together women from across forestry and arboriculture to share experiences and build a compassionate space to ask questions, overcome barriers and build supportive new connections.
The event will take place in Longwood Community Woodland, the largest community woodland in Wales. The 325-acre site is a plantation on an ancient woodland, managed for recreation, biodiversity and timber production.
Launched for the first time in April 2025, Women in Forestry meetups create an important space for those who may not often see themselves represented in the forestry sector. Attendees are encouraged to share their challenges as well as triumphs, and discuss how the sector can grow to better support current and future generations of women in the sector.
One previous attendee, Cathrin Poppensieke, commented: “It was such a joy to connect with other women working in a traditionally male-dominated profession, sharing stories, experiences, and encouragement.
“I thought the Women in Forestry day was fantastic and really helped me to slow down in the woods. It felt very inclusive which was a lovely environment to chat and share.
“I’m deeply grateful for the openness, empathy, and genuine interest fostered by the RFS and embraced by the group.”
The day will include a inspirational talks from experienced female foresters, a walk around the beautiful Long Wood Community Woodland and an informal ‘sharing circle’ where all are welcome to reflect on their own and others’ experiences.
Tracey Sinclair runs a small women’s group in her own woodland. After attending a Women in Forestry event last year, she left feeling inspired with new ideas for her sessions. “ I found the Women in Forestry day both enjoyable and interesting,” said Tracey. “It’s good to meet other women working in the same field and everyone was really open and shared ideas, sparking possibilities for my own woodland.”
