Two foresters awarded for over three decades of service to Northumberland Estate
Congratulations to Martin Rae and George Graham who were presented with the RFS Long Service Award on 20 February. They both joined the team at Pallinsburn Estate, Northumberland, in the 1990s.
On 20 February, Martin Rae and George Graham were awarded the RFS Long Service Award for their decades-long commitment to Pallinsburn Estate. The ceremony took place at the Border Union Agricultural Society Springwood Pavilion, Springwood Park, Kelso.
Martin Rae
Martin moved onto the estate in 1991 and started work on Pallinsburn in January 1994. Not long after, he married Gillian in Sept 1995 and they had 2 sons, Reece and Owen. Sadly, Martin’s wife passed away in 2016. When Martin started work on the Estate, working alongside Grant Thomas and George Graham. The Estate was sold to the Farr family in February 2005, and to this day, the team have remained the same.
George Graham
George was offered a job as a general estate worker at Pallinsburn Estate by the Mitchell Trust and started work in 1995. After a short stint at Berwick Borough Council as parks and cemetery manager, he was asked by estate manager Grant Thomas if he would like to return to Pallinsburn as Head Gardener, Nursery Manager and Estate Manager when Grant retired.
In 2005, the estate was sold and bought by Mr & Mrs Farr and family who he has worked alongside for the past 21 years. He would like to thank the estate for their collaboration in implementing many of his suggestions.
