“A great loss to forestry”: RFS Member Bill Mason has Passed Away
It is with regret that we learn of the passing of RFS member, Bill Mason.

Bill Mason, Chair of the Continuous Cover Forestry Group (CCFG) and respected silvicultural researcher, died earlier this month. The RFS wishes to send its deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Bill was a valued member of the RFS and a positive and influential force in the forestry community. A long standing proponent of continuous cover forestry, he led the CCFG for ten years. He had a significant impact working as senior silviculturist at Forest Research and the Forestry Commission, and as a trustee at the Scottish Forestry Trust.
In a statement on the CCFG website, the group’s Scotland Coordinator, Chris Tracey said: “It is difficult to find the words for the loss of such a lovely man, a real gentleman and true forester to his core. He is a great loss to forestry as a whole as well as obviously to ourselves. Our deepest sympathy extends to his family.”
