Women in Forestry Event at Longwood Community Woodland

The Royal Forestry Society has announced its fourth Women in Forestry gathering, taking place on 7 October at Marston Lodge Farm, Leicestershire and kindly sponsored by Sharkey Forestry.

Women in Forestry is an event series that brings together women from across forestry and arboriculture to share experiences and build a compassionate space to ask questions, overcome barriers and build supportive new connections.

Launched in April 2025, Women in Forestry meetups create an important space for those who may not often see themselves represented in the forestry sector. Attendees are encouraged to share their challenges as well as triumphs, and discuss how the sector can grow to better support current and future generations of women in the sector.

The latest event took place on 22 April at Longwood Community Woodland in Ceredigion, where attendees heard inspirational talks from experienced female foresters, walked around the beautifully managed woodland and took part in an informal ‘sharing circle’ where they reflected on their own and each other’s experiences.

A previous attendee of a Women in Forestry event said: “I’m deeply grateful for the openness, empathy, and genuine interest fostered by the RFS and embraced by the group. The warmth and respect shared among us created a really special atmosphere. I hope to cross paths with this community again soon and I’m excited to see what lies ahead for the incredible individuals I met.”

“It was such a joy to connect with other women working in a traditionally male-dominated profession, sharing stories, experiences, and encouragement.”
