Employer applications now open for 2026 Forestry Roots
Help kickstart the career of a young forester.
The Royal Forestry Society is inviting employers to apply to host a trainee through our Forestry Roots programme, with placements beginning later this year.
Forestry Roots helps young people aged 18–30 take their first steps into a forestry career and supports employers through the process. The 12‑month paid placement includes 20 days of practical training and mentoring. A competitive programme, employers benefit from a motivated trainee joining their team, along with structured support from the RFS.
The programme is funded through the ALA Green Charitable Trust and supports employers with the cost of the trainee’s salary.
Current and previous hosts include private forestry businesses, charities and estate teams, such as Chatsworth House, Hilly Holt Wood and City of Trees.
If you’re interested in hosting a trainee, please apply online or contact jobs@rfs.org.uk for more information.
Applications close on 11 February and are open exclusively to RFS members.
