The Royal Forestry Society (RFS) has linked up with the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA), Cumbria Woodlands and Forest Service Northern Ireland to extend its hugely successful range of one-day courses.

RFS Courses Co-ordinator Claire Street says: “All our courses are delivered by recognised experts in their fields and are based on skills and needs identified by forestry professionals and woodland owners.

“We are delighted we have been able to link up with three new hosts. Their support is helping us deliver cost effective courses to more people around the country. For the first time we are able to include courses on managing ash dieback, woodland archaeology, woodland care, thinning control and intermediate silviculture, alongside established topics including mensuration, grading and pests and diseases.”

Full details of all the courses and the leaders can be found here.  Places are limited with prices ranging from £150-£20 with discounts for RFS Members.

The 2020 programmes begins on 27 March with a course hosted by Cumbria Woodlands in Kendal – Digital forest management planning using MyForest led by Paul Orsi – and finishes on 2 October with Woodland history and archaeology at Ashley Green, Buckinghamshire with John Morris.

  • Introduction to tree measurement (Mensuration), on 5 June with Kevin Penfold.
  • Intermediate Silviculture, on 8 July with Prof. Julian Evans.
  • Digital forest management planning using MyForest, on 25 September with Paul Orsi.

In Northern Ireland two courses are being hosted by Forest Service Northern Ireland and led by Malcolm Beatty at Tollymore Forest Park:
