Trainee Forestry Ranger - Hill Holt Wood

Job Description

The main purpose of the job is to give you practical hands-on experience within forestry.

You will also be assisting the current forestry team in all aspects of the operation. Also, as a Social Enterprise we will show you how we add value to timber extracted to allow us to be financially sustainable and bring more woodlands back into management which is one of our charitable aims.

Main responsibilities

Reporting to our Head Forester you will, under supervision, learn Chainsaw felling, Thinning and Coppicing techniques, Logging, Ride management and maintenance and Sawmill operation.

The role will be a hands-on and practical experience that will help to enhance the areas and estates managed.

  • To be able to use your initiative and work on your own but also to be able to work in a team environment.
  • To enjoy working in the outdoors and have an appreciation and interest in the natural environment.
  • Willingness to take instruction and learn on the role.
  • You should not have previous permanent employment in the forestry industry.
  • You must hold a full driving licence.

Benefits and More Details

Salary – £20,000 + per year.

Hours of work – 40 hours per week.

Term – 1 year fixed term contract with 1 month probationary period.

Support – Up to 20 days paid release to attend fully funded CPD training (To the value of £2,000)

Regular progress reviews with the RFS and employer.

There is access to a £300 relocation grant available upon request from RFS.
