Trainee Forestry Worker

Job Description

You will be working alongside the existing forestry and arboricultural team to manage the woodlands and trees on the Chatsworth estate in Derbyshire, learn a bit more about Chatsworth and the work they do here.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carrying out instructions given by the Forestry Manager/ Assistant Forester/ Arboricultural supervisor.
  • Cutting, splitting and delivering firewood.
  • Tractor driving including towing trailers, operating the forwarding trailer and winch.
  • Forestry maintenance operations including planting, fencing and spraying.
  • Chainsaw operations including cross cutting, felling, clearing wind blow and thinning.
  • Maintenance of all forestry vehicles and equipment.
  • Working as part of a team or alone without direct supervision.
  • Interacting with other departments on the estate.
  • Working safely at all times, being aware of your own and others health and safety.
  • To ensure all work is carried out to the high standard required
  • As a representative of the Chatsworth Estate, being friendly, helpful, polite and enthusiastic when dealing with members of the public and other estate staff.
  • Having a flexible approach to carrying out other work on the Estate.

About You

Essential

  • Hardworking and committed.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment in all weathers.
  • Able to work alone using own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements.
  • Flexible approach to work.

Desirable:

  • Full UK Driving License.

Benefits and more details

Salary – £20,000+

Hours of Work 

Term – 1 year fixed term with 1 month probation period

Support – Up to 20 days paid release to attend fully funded CPD training (To the value of £2,000)

Regular progress reviews with the RFS and employer.

There is access to a £300 relocation grant available upon request from RFS.

The position is subject to satisfactory references, evidence of the right to work and live in the UK, other pre-employment checks as required and a contract of employment.
