The RFS is offering the opportunity for a student looking to gain industry experience to undertake a research project at Charles Ackers Redwood Grove and Pinetum, Welshpool.
Responsibilities
You will be:
- Carrying out a condition survey of our pinetum trees
- Mapping trees and access routes
- Creating content for an online profile of each specimen tree
- Compiling a report of findings and recommendations
Profile
Essential
This post is only available for degree students at UK universities looking for a placement as part of their programme. You must be able to work from our site near Welshpool for up to 1 of the 2 weeks on the project. Report writing and compilation of findings can be conducted from home.
- Someone who wants to gain experience in carrying out woodland surveys and producing professional reports.
- Reliable team player who is happy to work with others and take initiative when appropriate.

- Professional, friendly manner when representing the RFS.
- Confident with using Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Driving licence and own transport as the site is not accessible by public transport or on foot.
- Own laptop and ability to video conference with RFS Head Office.
Desirable
- Forestry or related degree such as Environmental Science, Biology or Geography
- GIS experience
- Experience with editing web content in WordPress
