Role of a Lead/Deputy Lead Assessor
- Technical quality assurance of product development specifications in line with the Apprenticeship Standard and Assessment Plan
- Approval of Apprenticeship Standard specific Independent End Point Assessors
- Provide technical expertise during product development
- Technical quality assurance of developed assessment materials to ensure they are fit for purpose
- Briefing and preparation of materials for standardisation events
- Delivery of Assessor standardisation/update events/annual training of assessors
- Assessment moderation
- Face to face observations of assessors, inclusive of communication and submission of documentation
- Remote observation of assessors, inclusive of communication and submission of documentation and video evidence
- Desktop moderation of assessment grading outcomes, inclusive of communication and submission of documentation
- Provide advice/guidance to assessors
- Provide advice/guidance relating to standard specific appeals
- Support Lantra’s Project Manager with EPA ad hoc activities
Industry Specific Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Level 3 in forestry or significant experience of the occupation or sector
- Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting
- Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Brush-cutters and Trimmers
Desirable
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Forestry Clearing Saw
- Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Hand Held Equipment
Essential experience
- Have recent relevant experience of the occupation/sector to at least occupational level 3 gained in the
- last 3 years or significant experience of the occupation or sector, including:
- Legislation – Health & Safety, Bio-diversity, Pollution Control and Industry Guidance
- Planting trees
- Clearing vegetation
- Measuring and selecting trees for removal
- Felling small trees
- Maintaining forest infrastructure
- Operation and maintenance of forest tools, equipment and machinery
- Monitoring and controlling, pests, diseases and disorders
- Use of GPS, maps and plans
- A minimum of 3 years’ recent relevant experience of the industry
- Maintain an up-to-date CPD record of forestry industry, apprenticeship and assessment practices
- Previous experience of internal or external verification
- Experience of marking and grading assessments
- Knowledge of appropriate procedures for dealing with incidents and emergencies
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- An understanding of Trailblazer apprenticeship, with specific knowledge about the relevant industry area of the role
- Experience of producing clear, accurate and concise written reports, including remarks/enquiries about results and responding to appeals
- Proficient IT skills
- Written and verbal communication skills with substantive experience of providing supportive, concise feedback to both learners, assessors and delivery staff
- Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
- Ability to work independently but also lead a team
