About the Job

Merrist Wood College are looking for an arborist/tree surgeon professional who is keen to pass on their knowledge and give something back by instructing others in their area of expertise.

As an Arboriculture Vocational Trainer, you will deliver short course provision and practical modules for full time students. You will work side-by-side with our arboriculture teaching staff and support in delivering purposeful, yet exciting practical and theory lessons. You will be responsible for guiding learners and candidates as they build a wide range of practical skills across vocational pathways in Arboriculture.

Merrist Wood College has a national and international reputation amongst employers and industry specialists and a long history of providing unrivalled education in the land-based sectors. You will get to work within a beautiful 420-acre estate of woodlands, wetlands, livestock, gardens and grasslands.

The role can be full or part time, please note on your application form your preference and working hours, if part time.

Person Specification

You will have an appropriate arboriculture qualification, with extensive industry experience and excellent knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, along with the following NPTC qualifications:

  • Chainsaw Maintenance
  • Tree Climbing and Aerial rescue
  • Tree felling up to 380mm
  • Chainsaw use from rope and harness

Other relevant NPTC (or similar certification) in the use of machinery, equipment or pesticides would be a distinct advantage.

Whilst previous training or instructing experience and qualifications would be beneficial, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications and experience to deliver arboriculture training and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational trainer, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
