RFS Book Club with Tracy Chevalier & Jonathan Drori

Join us for a very special evening with Tracy Chevalier, author of At the Edge of the Orchard, and her husband Jonathan Drori, author of Around the World in 80 Trees, as they talk trees from their sofa.

Zoom online event

We will be hearing about the early pioneers, settlers and plant hunters in North America who feature in Tracy’s bestseller At the Edge of the Orchard. Early settlers took apple seeds and saplings from their homelands to start their new lives, and orchards helped secure their stake in the new lands. Plant hunters used incredible ingenuity to bring North American species like Coast Redwoods and Giant Sequoias to the wealthy and curious in the UK and elsewhere.

Jonathan will introduce us to some of the incredible trees from across the globe which have fascinated and surprised him – their adaptations to environments, strange local uses and the surprising roles they have played in history. His sequel, Around the World in 80 Plants, has recently been published.

Plant biosecurity and species diversity are now at the top of the forestry climate change agenda. This will be an enjoyable opportunity to  discuss these topics from an unusual vantage point. Expect lively and inciteful discussion.

This event is free for RFS members and £10.00 for non RFS members. Thanks to the generosity of Laurence King Publishing we are delighted to be able to offer a 35% discount off both hardback and paperback copies of Around the World in 80 Trees and Around the World in 80 Plants. Terms and conditions apply. Details of how to claim will be included in the email confirming your place when you book.
