Lazonby Estate – North Western Division
Recently thinned Baron Wood PAWS site that is being converted to continuous cover; red squirrels are active in this area. We will look at stands where a range of management activities are planned from felling and thinning for supply to the Estate biomass boiler and for timber sales to the open market to re-spacing and restocking of younger woodlands. We will touch on areas within the Eden George SSSI along the River Eden and find some old stands of coppiced alder and veteran trees.
NB: This visit is entirely woodland based and there are NO FACILITIES. It will involve a two mile walk much of which is off road. Lunch will be taken en route. Please be prepared.
For more information and to book your place on the visit, please contact your local Honorary Secretary Ian Jack on email@example.com
In the light of COVID 19, we urge all members to read our COVID 19 guideline notes before attending woodland meetings. In addition, as an educational charity, the RFS must lead by example on the biosecurity measures recommended by the Forestry Commission (FC) and Defra to minimise the risk of spreading soil-borne tree infections. You can make a difference to stopping the spread of tree diseases. Clean boots are a first step! For further information, please click here
