Course overview:
Join our Teaching Trees lead trainer Becky for a day looking at how to care for the woodland in your Outdoor Learning or Forest School area. Battram Wood is one of our Teaching Trees sites and is visited by hundreds of school children every year to learn about trees and woodlands. See how we have balanced the creation of a learning space with the needs of the woodland and gain practical ideas to use on your site. Ideal for Outdoor Learning or Forest School practitioners who would like to make the most of the sites they are working on.
Learning outcomes:
- Practical ways to balance the creation of spaces for play and learning with the health of your woodland ecosystem
- “The right tree in the right place” – planning planting schemes to make the most of your land
- Creating mini forests – how to get a balanced woodland in a small space
- DIY woodland maintenance – what jobs to do yourself and when to call in a professional
- Getting the children involved – creating a whole school culture
Duration: 10.00am to 4.00pm

About the tutor:
Becky has been a qualified teacher and forest school leader for many years and now leads the Royal Forestry Society’s Teaching Trees programme. As well as working with schools on a regular basis, Becky is lead trainer for our accredited Outdoor Learning training courses.
