About:   This short course equips you with the knowledge and skill to complete basic woodland measurements that are useful for guiding future management activities. The course will explain both the principles and how they can be applied, as well as providing lots of time to practice taking measurements on trees and in the woods. Included will be basic tree measurements, and surveying techniques to assess many aspects of a woodland, including regeneration and growth. 

Duration: 10.00am to 4.00pm

Price: £70.00 RFS members / £80.00 non RFS members

Note: Course attendees are advised to bring packed lunch, but tea and coffee will be provided.

About the tutor:

Mike Jones graduated in Forestry in 1982, and spent 12 years working on private estates in Yorkshire, latterly as Head Forester on Garrowby Estate near York. After gaining a teaching qualification, he went to teach forestry at Newton Rigg College, which later became part of the University of Cumbria. In 2007 he joined the Forestry Commission, firstly in Scotland, then North England,  where he was responsible for planning and surveys. During a career break from the Commission, Mike spent time as an independent consultant, advising  owners on woodland management, and auditing forestry organisations against the UKWAS certification scheme.
