About: This is an excellent introduction for anyone interested in learning more about timber quality and grading. The course covers the basics of wood anatomy and the features of high quality logs. The course also explains the various defects and types of decay that can affect timber, and is therefore useful information for anyone who is planning to harvest or who wants to improve the quality of their trees. The course starts with an indoor session and then moves out onto the estate to look at examples of standing trees of various qualities, from high grade specimens to those with different defects. Example logs will be presented for practical exercises on grading and evaluation. 

Duration: 10.00am to 4.00pm (approx finish time)

Note: Course attendees are advised to bring a packed lunch.
