Become a Forestry STEM Ambassador

Could you take 1 day a year out of your work calendar to visit a local school and talk to them about careers with trees?

As part of our wider commitment to inspiring and educating the next generation of Foresters and Arborists, the RFS are leading on a new Forestry Ambassadors project in England and Wales through the national organisation, STEM Learning.

We are looking for representatives from the full range of the Forestry and Arboriculture sectors to commit to taking 1 day a year out of their professional lives to visit a local school and talk to children and young people about careers.

Could you offer:

  • to set up a stall at a local school Careers Fair using resources provided by the RFS?
  • to give a talk on your career to inspire others? You don’t have to have followed a typical path through Bangor or Cumbria or be in a certain type of job. Career changers, unusual jobs and surprising pathways all welcome as they showcase the variety of people and skills that have found a home in our sector.

Getting started

  1. Register online as a STEM Ambassador
  2. In your online profile, select that you’d like to be a “Forestry Ambassador” and that you give consent for the scheme organisers to see your details. That’s just us and Lantra.
  3. Go to the groups section and join the “Forestry Ambassadors” group to chat online to other Forestry Ambassadors and access our wide library of resources to support you in your work.

If you have any problems at all with the registration process, please email careers@rfs.org.uk

Finding visits

Once you’re registered, we’ll send you a monthly newsletter with details of all the upcoming events in your region so you can easily see which ones you might be able to attend.

If you have details of an event that needs more attendees, please send to careers@rfs.org.uk and we’ll see if we can match someone from the sector to it.

Let us know what you’re up to!

Volunteering hours can be logged through the STEM platform but also do send us an email to let us know where you’ve been so that we can include you in the sector wide reports on careers activity. Sharing a post on socials such as LinkedIn and tagging us in it can also be a great way to motivate other professionals to sign up and become a Forestry Ambassador.
