To apply for an RFS Certificate, the following steps are required:
- Candidates must complete all the required elements (i.e., theory qualification and a minimum of 8 practical certificates ("tickets")) before they can apply for the RFS Certificate. Please note that RFS does not deliver any of these elements; candidates are responsible for obtaining the relevant qualifications from recognised colleges or training providers.
- Scan copies of all your original theory and practical qualifications and save in PDF or JPG formats. For the theory certificate (i.e., ABC Level 2/3 Certificate) we require both the award certificate and the module transcript. Please note, we normally accept digital copies of certificates but may request original copies on occasion for quality and auditing purposes.
- Download the 'RFS Certification Application Form' and complete it in its entirety. (Don't forget to include your full name, as you would like it to appear on your certificate, and your postal address)
- Complete the payment process for the certification, either by using the online shop here or by phoning 01295 678588, you will recieve confirmation of payment by email.
- Email the 'RFS Certification Application Form' and scanned certificate copies to RFSCertifications@rfs.org.uk
- Each application is assessed on an individual basis. Following receipt of an application, RFS will then verify all certificates, complete our registration process and if there are no irregularities issue the full certificate in the post.
- Please note, it can take up to 8 weeks for your certificate to be processed and posted to you.
- Applications can be submitted at any time.
- There is a £75 fee for RFS Certificate applications.
£25 will be retained as a non refundable admin charge in the event that an application is not successful.
- There is a £25 fee for re-issuing of lost or damaged certificates.
- Holders of a RFS Certificate may use the relevant postnomial abbreviations: Cert Arb RFS, Cert For RFS or Cert Silv RFS.
- RFS retains detailed records on file for each application. We are able to provide verification of RFS Certificate holders to employers and authorities who may require confirmation of a person's professional qualifications.
- Each Certifiaction is personally signed and authorised by the President of the Royal Forestry Society.
- The RFS will publish the names and home towns (but not the full address or any other details) of successful new holders of RFS Certificates in the Quarterly Journal of Forestry. We will also promote candidates in press releases to the arboricultural and forestry media (by permission of the candidate only).
- Your name and home town will also be listed on the online register of Certification holders for the public to search for unless specified otherwise.
- Successful candidates are eligible for free membership of the RFS for one year. Details of how candidates can claim their free membership will be provided along with the award certificate.
- HEALTH and SAFETY
Although not a formal requirement, RFS strongly recommends that all candidates for RFS qualifications complete First Aid at Work training, and maintain a valid First Aid certificate while working in a woodland setting. This is important for personal health and safety, as well as for the well-being of colleagues. Further information about health and safety in the forestry sector is available from the Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA).
